Fiercely independent, he also harbored a strong mistrust of women; but despite this, his involvement with Carlotta Lenshovski, a descendant of the Romanoffs, soon deepens into love. Rejected by the man she really cares for, Carlotta agrees to marry Sir Norman -- although it seems that marriage founded on a financial agreement must be doomed to failure.
