Lord Calthorpe's Promise
Lord Adam Calthorpe had been rash in his promise to look out for a fellow soldier's sister before the soldier was killed at the battle of Waterloo. For Miss Katherine Payne was a golden-eyed shrew who took genuine delight in flouting Adam's authority at every turn.
