Whiplash River

by Lou Berney

This is the second in a three-part trilogy of Shake Bouchon, a sometimes (and mostly reluctantl) driver for the underworld in his past. To avoid spoilers for the unititiated Shake reader, he simply longs for a life running his own cafe, but "things happen". This time, we find him in Belize, trying desperately to stay hidden with his girlfriend (maybe not that trustworthy of a friend). Read and find out if his plan has a however-slim chance for success and happiness. Be prepared for Elmore Leonard snarkiness and bravado as Shake uses his ill-gotten skills to save himself, his girl, and the quiet life he craves. Sometimes, "the next thing" is just too good to pass up.
