Two English girls, Jodi Dean, a nurse, and Carina Radford, secretary, obtain jobs at Tarrara, a town in the Australian outback which is fighting its way back to normality after being devastated by severe flooding. Jodi is searching for a long-lost brother, Carina is looking for a husband. Immediately Jodi is plunged into coping with a chicken-pox epidemic. By the end of their stay in Tarrara, both have fulfilled their ambitions - though not quite in the way they first expected.
